Using heated seat connection for GPS power

Hi, the Garmin zumo power lead when using a cradle requires the end wires to be connected to a plug, I couldn’t work out how to connect ti a USB plug so bought some connectors and simply plug into the heated seat connector. This works well apart from the fact that when connected the heated seat icon on the dash flashes. If I connect the heated seat the icon works as it should, have I missed something or doing any damage?

FWIW: i have a vintage motorcycle which has a shutoff-valve for the oil circuit. I have to manually turn it on and off each ride.

I used my label machine to make a little sign of "OIL" which I mounted on the dash where I see it first thing, every time I ride it.

Perhaps something like this would work for you too.
 
I did the same thing on my Seadoo Sportster boat to remind me to run the bilge fan before starting the engine and turn off the battery switch when I'm loading it on the trailer.
 
why don't you use the pre-set plug for the USB on the cockpit? it is easy to reach and to connect and it is not powered when bike is off
