V100 Scheduled Maintenance Tables

Since Scott posted this thread re: V100 Maint intervals, I thought I’d put this post here. I just got my bike back from Cadre Cycles here in Cincinnati. I took it in for the 7500 miles service. And, while in the shop, had new Continental Road Attack 4 tires put on. They also did the clutch seal (warranty). And, as a bonus, they replaced the clutch lever, because the little finger/thumb wheel adjuster was locked up and couldn’t be adjusted. No charge. Great service👍😁. Bike is running great. Although new, the new tires feel very predictable in the corners, with absolutely no detection of compound change when leaning over 👍.

Pic - After about 25 miles… will do a scruff-in tomorrow on a Kentucky ride. I think it’ll be fine for the MSTA rally in Marietta next week😉… Lord, I hope for no rain - had enough in NC/TN/GA recently😂!

Somewhere on this computer is a service outline, somewhere near my larger-print owner's manual that I CAN retrieve, just can't remember its "title." At least I've now been reminded to search a bit harder now... I used to enjoy doing basic maintenance on my air-cooled twins (air'n'oil-cooled too), but now the Mandello's more complicated and I'm too old & forgetful... IOW, I don't like doing it any more 🤨

If like most Europeans, your motorcycle lives outdoors, then no, not excessive at all.

I'm pretty sure the majority of worldwide motorcyclists don't have garages and an alternator belt replacement isn't something you can or want to do on the side of the highway.

If it breaks, you are dead in the water and going no place until it is fixed.

Alternator belt maintenance "by crisis" is a really lousy bet. It can get seriously expensive in a hurry when it happens in the worst possible place.

Think long-distance towing to a Guzzi or competent shop, overnight shipment of part(s) (if available), installation, lodging, meals, etc.

If your part is not in the USA, or it's Friday 4:30pm, or it's a 3 day weekend holiday...well then, you are faced with a monumental challenge.

$$$$ FAST.

Bike should run for a considerable distance on battery, I traveled over 180 miles on a fully charged battery. Pull fuse for headlight, park to bumpstart where possible.
 
So who has had there valve clearance adjustment carried out ?
Incredibly ridiculous procedure compared to all previous Guzzi motors.
 
While 15,000 miles to alternator belt replacement seems a touch short, my 97 R1100RT requires it at 30,000 miles. So not too different and cars, I rarely end up replacing them in less than 100,000 miles. When I start doing my own service, bought a service contract, I plan to replace the air filter with a cleanable one made for the bike. (Like a K&N but a different company.) I really hate throwing things away without a reason and I've been running K&N air filters on just about every vehicle I own. (cars and motorcycles.) If there was a real problem with using them, I would know it because 200,000 miles on a Del Sol with the original clutch is fairly normal in my house.

People should think about these things before buying a bike. If I was younger and healthier then yes I might have one
. but I will keep to my air/ oil cooled bikes... Made sure I had a place to keep them so no rain or snow nor cold
and I take 5 to 10 minutes checking them 2 times a week! Start them once a week with a large fan running in front of them to
get oil flowing. All good here! Do your maintenance as outlined and take care of your rides they will take care of you!

Are the Guzzi belts fundamentally different from automotive drive belts? If not, then every two years seems a bit ridiculous. Regards coolant: that's crazy. But, most m/c MFGs spec the same. It's to keep the dealers solvent.
 
My V100S turned 24k km in the fall. Going to do my own service on it this spring. Most difficult part is changing alternator belt but looks like more of a hassle than a big problem. Still love the bike.

Just checked valve clearance on my 2024 V100S at 10,000 miles, intakes were tight, HotCams 8,90 shims fit but the kit only goes up to 2.60mm and my shims are in the 2.75-2.85 range so the HotCams kit useless, return to Amazon. Good news is ,you DO NOT need to remove the cams or front cover to change shims, nor do you need any of the special tools listed.Park the bike in 2nd gear then click up to 6th gear,after you shut off the engine ,remove the spark plugs , bike on the centre stand or rear race stand now you can turn the engine over by grabbing the rear tire.

Once you shut the bike off in 1st or neutral, you won’t be able to get it past 1st gear.
At TDC on compression,carefully remove the E-clips and special washers from the rocker shafts, remove the rocker shafts and finger followers , now you can carefully swap the shims, use a narrow telescopic magnet to remove and tweezers to install the shims,the forward intake shims are a challenge. Once you’ve checked the clearance, before removing any parts,carefully pack ALL cavities with clean rag pieces.

I can’t emphasize enough to be VERY careful and pack ALL Cavities, like your doing open heart surgery . If you drop a shim or washer inside the engine, good luck 🙄
