V11 LeMans issues

Hello all - I'm at my wit's end with my 2002 V11 Lemans. The initial problem was that it would not restart after taking a ride to warm the engine. I was not hearing the sound of the fuel pump priming. The bike eventually shut down on the freeway and fortunately, a friend with a truck was willing to come get me and the Guzzi. I replaced the fuel pump relay and later the fuel pump itself. First ride today. The bike started right up from cold, though the fuel pump relay made some funky sounds before the pump primed. The 30 minute ride was largely uneventful though the engine cut out a few times at higher RPMs under load. I returned home, shut off the bike and immediately restarted it - I thought all was well. I tried to start it again after 1/2 hour. It would fire, run for a splt second, and then die. Now I can't get it to keep running.

The problem seems to be temperature related. This is the only fuel injected motorcycle I have ever owned and wrenched on, so I'm at a loss. I would appreciate any suggestions from people more knowledgable than me. Thank you.

First suspect is failing coil(s). Also check the resistance of the phase sensor. Resistance values are in the P8 manual in the downloads section. If you are near a dealer, have them check for fault codes.

Thanks for the tip. What I failed to mention is that the fuel pump doesn't prime like it once did (when the bike was healthy). First the relay makes a lot of noise, and then the pump starts priming like a machine gun - not a solid sound. Only then does it prime normally and the bike will start. Does this lend any additional insight? Thanks again.

Check easy things 1st. Sidestand switch, you can unplug it or jump accross. Clutch switch on LH bar, can't remember if it has one. Neutral switch also. Could even be the kill switch acting up. Intermittent signal from ECU (15M) would be to clean the pin connector on the back of it with DeOxit or electronic cleaner, means take it unplugged & do.

It will show a code if you had software.

Looking at the wiring diag, I would also change out the 10A fuse for new it operates the pump & relay, it could be dodgy.

Can I offer an unusual suggestion? I also had a 2002 V11 LeMans and at higher temperatures it would cut out. I had an open airbox and once the engine got warmed it would be hot enough for the original heat shield fitted on the bottom of the tank to loosen its glue and then get sucked against the air filter. Once I removed it and stuck on new adhesive heat reflecting tape the situation was resolved
