V50 Trouble Shooting

Hi All.

I have a T3 but lately been helping a friend with their V50. The bike is complete but stopped running at the end of last season.

Upon inspection the connection at the ignition switch had gotten hot and melted the connection from the battery (Red wire). The melting was a gift as it flowed plastic across the contacts breaking the circuit and effectively acting as a fuse. Quite lucky.

Now the task is to find the short or over current device. The outgoing white wire which energizes the ignition through the kill switch to the ignition modules is the wire which is demonstrating a high current draw.

I would like to hear from anyone who has either had this issue or can shed any light on where or what the fault might be.

My questions are:

1. Can the ignition module fail and create a high current situation through an internal fault?
2. Has anyone had these symptoms on this circuit? If so what did you discover?
3. I did assume the issue is a pinched harness from the handle bars to the frame but cannot recreate the problem on said circuit when isolating the section of harness and using a voltage meter. Any thoughts?

It's a sweet little bike and we'll solve it's problems but any advice or comments will help shorten the time need to do so.

Thanks for you help.
