Hi all.
Just reassembled a V7 6 speed box. Two tips that might go some way to making you workshop air less blue. When reinstalling the complete selector shaft and associated parts two springs will need to be managed SIMULTANEOUSLY to have success. The indexing spring that acts on the gear selection roller makes it very difficult to slide the selector shaft into its hole in the gear case. Use a nylon cable tie and loop it around both arms of the spring and compress them fully. The second difficulty is installing the gear selector centring spring that locates centrally on a fixed stud in the gear case. It is best to manage both arms of this spring at the same time by using a large blade screwdriver. Slip the screwdriver blade under one arm and over the second and rotate the screwdriver through 90 degrees so as to tension the centring spring. This puts each spring arm on the relative and correct side of the locating stud. Slide the selector shaft into the case and twist the blade through 90 degrees to open the spring arms. It may take a little practice to hold the screwdriver and spring in position while installing the selector shaft into the case but it is doable. Both springs arms can then be pushed over their locating stud. You may ask from which side to insert the screw driver. There is only one right way that results in the setting of the spring arms in a flat plane. If you somehow manage to do it the wrong way it will be very obvious with the spring arms lying askew and the circular body of the spring will not be sitting flat. REMEMBER to cut and remove the cable tie also ensure that during the operation that the loop on the indexing spring engages with the indexing arm (the one with the roller on the end).
Best regards to all.
