V7 III - Timing Cover

I may need to remove the timing cover on my v7 iii special for some maintenance. I can remove the bolts, etc. but cannot get it off due to part of the frame. does anyone know the easiest method for exposing the cover completely? If I put a block/jack under the sump and remove the cradle bolts can I lower it enough AND will I screw anything up in the process?

I have a vague memory of seeing in some posting (cannot find it now) that the V7 III has a wet timing cover. I may be completely wrong, but mention it just in case I am not.

I think I am actually talking about the alternator or generator cover per the manual...
 
If you loosen the other frame rail bolts further back they give you enough for clearance on the front cover. Makes it less tight to get out. Put new sealant on wiring grommet.

V700Steve, do you mean the four screws (two on either side of the fame) that attach the front of the cradle to the frame or the bolt that attaches the engine to the cradle? Do I need to remove the exhaust to get the cross pipe out of the way? Thanks!

What maintenance?
A year ago I had to put on a new stator on my III. The sump doesn't need draining. It's not really wet just some oil spray/mist. It appears that is part of the breather system now. I'd replace the gasket. About $8. If I remember right the cover has a couple of dowel pins to align it but comes off without an issue other than a bolt-up top that's a bitch to get at. Just drill a hole in the metal cross support.

You might look up Kiwi Roy's post here about V7III failed stator. It's all well covered there.
 
The reason I want to remove the cover is to replace the gasket. I have an oil leak from the lower corner (when its on the side stand). I can get all the bolts off just cant get the cover off. Does not seem to be enough clearance up top to do anything but pivot up about 30 degrees.

What does your leak look like? I have one at where the block and bellhousing meet on the rear brake side.. It's at the dealer right now getting done next week. I'll ask them about it.

I wish I could remember, but it escapes me. I know I replaced the stator and the gasket and didn't remove the engine bolts. I also remember it being frustrating at times.
I have seen mention of removing the bracket the ABS controller sits on. This looks like frustration city but may try that before dropping the engine.
 
What does your leak look like? I have one at where the block and bellhousing meet on the rear brake side.. It's at the dealer right now getting done next week. I'll ask them about it.
I have this leak in your pictures. Do you happen to remember what they did to fix it or what the cause was? Thanks!
