Hello all, I am currently 1,300 miles into a road trip with another 800 or so to get to my destination of Phoenix, Arizona. Yesterday the final drive started leaking. I last changed the oil 7,000 miles ago putting 160cc in. No problems until yesterday. I dropped by Erico Motorsports in Denver yesterday who were kind enough to confirm that one of the seals has failed. Without dismantling they can’t say which one but they think it will be the forward one between the final drive unit and the shaft drive housing. This based on the fact that the oil is leaking in one place and not scattering around the whole rim of the wheel. Erico reckon it would be weeks to get the parts so my thinking is to get the bike to Phoenix, order the parts and do the work myself. I was hoping some of the wise heads on here would be able to tell me if any special tools are needed and whether it is a job within the reach of an average home mechanic. I must admit I was surprised by the quoted workshop rate at Erico $189 per hour with between 3 and 4 hours needed. This has given me the motivation to attempt it. I would be grateful of informed advice.

Lot's of threads here on the subject, do some searches. Just wondering if shop cleared out or checked the vent, could be clogged.

Thanks for your reply. I found lots of entries for V7/V9 leaks. Nothing specifically for the V85 although I imagine they are similar/same in the challenge I was asking about.

They did check the vent but thanks for pointing it out.
