ok, just back home from a 4000 mile trip through Europe and taking the panniers off, or at least one, the right side - it unlocked and came off frame easily, the left one wont unlock, key goes in about 1/4 of the way and stops, tried flooding it with WD, got a thin pick out and prodded to find an obstruction, but cant get key to fully insert.

anyone else had this problem ? i dont see any way to get the lock off in situ.

Best bet is to visit a locksmith. A pin or wafer may be out of position in the lock assembly.

I don’t know the answer to that but like John said, a competent locksmith can get you right as rain very quickly.

Just for grins, you might try smaking the top outside of the box in towards the bike while trying to put the key in. You're in uncharted waters here.
Might work once, but won't solve the root problem. I call this the bigger hammer technique:)

Which variety of panniers? I had the same issue on one of my panniers on a V100. The V85 travel panniers have the same locks. The aluminium pannier locks are different. I never worked out what was the problem with mine, just forced the lock just enough to open then replaced the lock.

its the plastic type, its the lock that holds them to the frame thats the problem

OK, i had a close look at fittings and went inside the box to remove 4 screw each side at top, box will then come off.

took the lock out and cleaned it and refitted, key works but suspect fault will return, at least the box is off and i can get bike through the gate to my garage
