Hello. I've got this metal spring that fell out of my caliper when removing to replace pads. I have no idea where it exactly goes. I've post all over the world but no one can tell me the exact place where it fits. I just dont want to jam it into somewhete. I know it stops rattling and presses against pads. I just don't know where it clips. Any help would be appreciated. A diagram would be great.

Thank you.

Goes in center under pads on inside if there is nowhere for a pin to go through.
Then you should have to push down on it to put the pin in that holds it all together. Just a guess, I didn't take it apart.
I'm not to good at explaining things
You in Wheaton , IL?
Yes, hook one side, pres down on THAT part & put pin in.
Kevin to the rescue---

Unfortunately Kevin deleted his post.

I'll mess with it tonight. I was hoping there was a detent or an area I could see to lay it in. Last thing I want is to put it in and have a failure of some sort.

I'm in Sugar Grove, IL. Moved out of Wheaton about 5 years ago. Are you familiar with the area?

here we go again, just taken the rear brake apart to take the photo for you, see how it fits, its a tight fit and clips in place, there is also another clip at the top on my Breva, hope that helps.

Unfortunately the spring location is hidden by the structure of the caliper. I believe Steve is correct on how to install. It has been some time since I replaced rear pads. I just pay attention to how it comes apart, then put it back together with the new parts. From memory, you place the spring then hook one end of the pads, then press the pads up install the pin. Kevin's pictures show its' position and orientation. Thanks Kevin.

I think it goes like Kevins pics. Both pads rest on it after hooked on ridge, push down on pads & put pin in.
I grew up next to DuPage Co Airport, then farmed in Waterman. We had a farm in FermiLab till 69.

Thanks Kevin. Been awhile for me.

Kevin, you are a real hero. Thank you for taking apart your caliper and pics. I owe you big time!

Steve, I grew up in Lisle and very familiar with DuPage County. Looks like you farmed not that far from my home in Sugar Grove. I was just in Hinkley last week...they have a decent BBQ restaurant there.

Thanks again for the help. I was able to reset the metal spring and get everything back together...except, I lost the darn pin clip. Can't find it anywhere. Looks like they don't sell clip separately either. Guess I won't be riding until next week.

You can use a simple cotter pin or even a piece of trusted paper clip. It won’t hurt it a bit.

All the pin clip does is prevent the brake retaining pin from backing out and it’s quick to pull and replace .

Pin or paper clip won't work. What I see in the parts book is like an E-clip with a shoulder for easy removal and install. You may be able to find an E-clip small enough at a good hardware store.

Sorry, was working blind.

Some are threaded, others not, some have a cotter type pin, others have an E-clip, yet others have different kinds of clips. Their function is all the same, to keep the pin from coming out.

I thought when you said pin clip, you meant the cotter pin type.
