Hi everyone,
I'm new to this on line communication. Is there some protocol about how to refer to people when replying to a post. Many of the user names, though purposeful, seem kind of silly, awkward, or just too long to use in quick and familiar reply. Maybe this is irrelevant as currently, the trend in popular culture is not to abbreviate in familiarity. David's stay David, and Robert's stay Robert.
So, If you don't know the individuals name, is their expectation that you call them by their user name? By a portion of it? Please advise, as using a name is a huge part of developing rapport; but maybe thats the whole point of this online stuff; no real rapport necessary. I'm happy to play along, however the wind is blowing. Let me know what you think.
