So after 33k miles without a problem the ABS and Traction Control lights came on during a ride. There was no noticable change in how the bike was braking or riding so I went home and decided to look at it in the morning. This morning the Lts were still on and during a short test ride the TC light started flashing and the engine would not rev above 2000 rpm, seemed like it was being limited then the light stopped flashing but remained on and I was able to ride back home. I inspected the wires to the wheel speed sensors, fluid levels, I went through
the MGCT settings, tried disconnecting the battery and the lights are still on. Any ideas on how I can pull up a fault code or investigate further? I don't typically let anyone else work on my vehicles but I am somewhat limited in this bikes diagnostics without dealer equipment.

Check your tire pressures. From there, you'll need PADS or similar to diagnose.

So the fault codes indicate a bad front wheel speed sensor. Where is the ABS control unit located? I do realize I can follow the speed sensor wire but if it's behind one of the side covers I'd rather not remove the fuel tank . The service manual does not appear to have a component locator which would be helpful. Thanks.

Check your front wheel sensor spokes, there might be foreign matter in there confusing the sensor. Last year on my 1400 Custom I was getting a constant ABS/TC fault, turned out being a small twig caught in the sensor spokes.

Thanks to all who replied, I will have a new front speed sensor arriving tomorrow and based on the fault code this should remedy the problem. Since I won't have access to PADS at the time of the install I'm hoping I can reset the fault by disconnecting the battery and if needed, shorting the cables together to drain any remaining charge held by the capacitor. If that doesn't work, I'll make another trip to the dealer for a reset.

Curious as to why when parts are purchased from GTM, it's RARELY noted, yet I chase links to our competitors here daily. The sensor is not in stock with the big online vendors, but we had a few in stock. Link below. If you don't see it on the Store, just ask via email: Sales @GTMotoCycles.com - we don't stock everything, but we have a decent OEM parts inventory for most all models for the last decade plus.

My bad, GTM has a great inventory of hard to get parts and I am very happy to note this in future post's and purchases! As these amazing bikes age and will no doubt require more repairs and maintainence, the availability of these hard to get parts will be more appreciated, so thanks to Todd & GTM for the hard work of keeping this forum going, maintaining a great parts inventory and allowing members to continue enjoying our Moto Guzzi Machines!
