A wiring harness was touching the inside left cylinder ar the rear corner, just below the two throttle cables. Blue wire with pink trace insulation mekted and clearly arcing onto the cylinder head. This fat (maybe 10- 15 wires all cnvered with a black shesth) wire bundle should have been tied down better. if it happened to my B11, you could b next.

Symptoms were intermittent rough running, fouled plugs, hard starting, service light on, poor gas milage. The problem progressed from an occasional annoyance to a near constnt issue, obviously as the wire melted. ECU code read 31 but I never was ble to translate that one.

Good find, JimmyZ. I see your problem re the error code:
...........................
Error Ignition coil 1 C.C. Gnd ECU 23
Error Ignition coil 2 C.C. Vcc ECU 24
Error Ignition coil 2 C.C. Gnd ECU 25
Error Injector 1 C.C. Vcc. ECU 26
Error Injector 1 C.C. Gnd ECU 27
Error Injector 2 C.C. Vcc ECU 30
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no ECU31!
Error Pump relay ECU 36
Error Local Loop-back ECU 37
Error relay starter C.C. Vcc ECU 44
........................
...........

Glad you were able to find it (frayed wire) in an accessible location.

Just had my bike serviced - wasn't overly happy with job so yesterday took the tank and airbox off and indeed had exactly the same loom routing issue, touching left pot. All tidied up now though.

Didn't have the error codes but did have a Service Light issue that needed resetting.

Thanks :)
