Hi, anyone have this? I didn’t get a service book with the bike, was told it’s all electronic now…

On the old 750 it had a load of stuff to do every 5k,10k km’s etc, but never said it needed to be serviced annually, just based on miles… is this true?

No idea about the 750 but it’s true that the 850 doesn’t come with a service booklet. It should have the owner’s handbook though. My 2021 V7 850 Special did. That includes the maintenance schedule, a mixture of mileage and annual eg two years for brake fluid change unless a certain mileage already reached. I don’t know of any bike that does not have the same sort of schedule; all the bikes I’ve bought new in the last few years have had online service records.

Just picked up my 2023 v7 Special. Selling dealer told me the first service at 1500 km included valve adjustment and changing all fluids. In the owners manual it reads engine oil only. Anybody know what is actually one?

I think Guzzi dealers are living in different worlds; my dealer told there is no need for valve job if there is no abnormal sound from valves!!!?? but only engine oil change. I truly wonder if they ever done a valve check in a v7 850, though.
Service schedule says both, as Vagrant mentioned, and no gear or cadran oil change at first service (both are in 30.000 km). However it will be better to change IMHO, oil is relatively cheap.

Now the dealer says engine oil only and valve adjustment for the first service and for this they want about $350 Cdn, plus parts and taxes. Final bill expected to be close to $500. Sounds expensive to me.

Valves should be checked at each engine oil change. Clearance check must be performed on a cold engine.

The 6 speed and rear end need to be done if for no other reason to make sure they have the correct amount in them. The factory has been know to make mistakes. $350 Cd might not be too bad, but if capable do it yourself.

I’m quite capable but was concerned about warranty. The other thing was, I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to let the dealer have a look and listen after 1500 km? I could save close to $400 doing it myself though. Have a bit of time to think about it - only 400 km on the bike.

You need to decide if you want to be responsible for your own maintenance.

Unless you have proper tools and are prepared to acquire additional expensive tools to do the job properly, then there is your answer.

Your warranty cannot be voided by your decision to maintain your own motorcycle PROVIDED you keep meticulous records and receipts.

Document everything.

Also, some dealers are really testy and may buck at providing you service down the road, or less than stellar warranty work timing wise.

Caveat emptor.

Lots to consider.

They might not have our laws about not forcing you to the dealer in Canada.
Edited my post. Cost will be close to $500 Cdn with parts and taxes. Tools and tech know how are not an issue. I can easily perform the required service. Will need to check into warranty requirements / exclusions.
