Has anyone found an aluminum cnc dipstick for the Cali 1400?? I've never liked the plastic dipstick. I'd like to find a metal one with nice cross hatching so I can see the oil level easier.

Hmm...wonder if it would be to hot to remove?

Mgcycle.Com has a assortment of dipsticks. Not sure if yours is listed. I have a metal one on my v7 and yes it gets too hot to remove with your hands.

FYI, I did check with the vendor and they state that they do not yet make this product for the California 1400.

There's a good reason they are plastic: Vibration. Second is of course cost. If made correctly, metal is OK. Should I do a run of these? Can't come close to matching bsanut's eBay cost, $99 would be about it. Takers?

I am not ready to jump, just yet. What do you think about the possibility of galling? It would be quite a problem to find one's dipstick stuck in place and this might be the best reason to have the screwed in dipstick made of plastic.
 
I've done them before with zero issues related to galling. It's aluminum into cast aluminum, with a steel rod to measure the oil level.
 
Thanks guys! As much as I dislike that cheap plastic looking dipstick I don't think I'm ready to change it just yet. Very good points about to hot to touch (even the plastic gets very hot) and possibility of getting it stuck.

Is anyone out there monitoring their oil temp? I saw the dipstick oil temp gauge on mgcycle.com thought It'd be cool if there was a wireless sensor out there. Just a thought.

Yeah, I understand (machine designer for over 40 years). Have you considered a knurling or some kind of graduation marks on the rod?

Man...I could spend $99 on a bunch of stuff, but a dipstick isn't one of them. However, if the rest of you GTM fanatics want to kick in $99 toward getting a giant GTM spotlight like the Bat Signal to shoot at the nighttime clouds outside his shop in Orange, then count me in!
