I used the tape and the screws, not fell off yet in 5 years
The one I bought had double sided tape and I had to drill 4 holes for some plastic "pop rivets" 4k miles later and still good

Yes, mine had the little expanding plastic rivets too. Seems to be secure. Previous one did fall off, but that was only stuck on.
Ditto - mine has the plastic push-in 'rivets'. Been just fine in over 10k km.

Just got it firing!
I had it fixed by epoxy glue glue (Alteco 3-ton quick epoxy) and 2 plastic rivets on my previous Versys and hold pretty well. I think even the rivets might not be needed. I just used sand paper to make rough surface on matching surfaces on both parts. I have pretty good experience with this glue, had used it to repair broken front light and radiator bracket on my car and worked for years well.
