So I have an Audace 1400. The starter went today and I only have 3700 miles on it. I have attached a couple of pictures. The teeth on the starter drive are grinded down, but the flywheel looks fine. Is this a common issue with Guzzis? I went to start it, the starter made a loud noise, I released the starter button, then pressed it again, and then just made a spinning noise. The starter is getting 12 volts when the button is pressed (checked with multimeter). My dad has been looking into this as well and he found stuff online saying the starter is either an 8 or 9 tooth gear. This is definitely a 9 tooth gear. We are stumped on this since there's so little miles on the bike. Any thoughts?

Probably the bendix was sticking and not allowing the starter gear to fully engage with the flywheel or to disengage properly. The starter gear got ground off.
As far as I know it is not a common issue. Parts do fail unexpectedly sometimes. Considering the age and mileage, lack of use may have contributed to the bendix sticking.

It shoots all the way out when it's activated. We just want to make sure there wasn't a mistake on the assembly line where the wrong flywheel was installed or something else is wrong and we'll be repairing something else or another starter soon

That Bendix gear is pretty well shot. If It can't be rebuilt, then the starter should be replaced. Check with auto electric shops in your area to see if the starter can be repaired.

I have 40000 + miles on my Eldorado, had no starter issues, so far. If you haven't already, be sure to turn the engine and examine the entire ring gear for wear before putting a new or rebuilt starter on it.
