Hi all
I recently purchased a Breva. The bottom fairing and the starter motor cover are both badly faded. I have tried a few ways to restore but sill look patchy and grey. Is it worth spray painting them
And with the dash, any mods worth doing to make it last longer (waterproofing, ect)
Thoughts

There are several products that claim to restore plastic components. What have you tried? For the dash there is a thread on how to add extra drains to prevent any water build up. You should be able to find it with a search.

At least on the bottom fairing of my 1200 Sport, I used Krylon Fusion to paint it after it started to get all blotchy. I don't think my starter cover was that bad so I probably didn't do anything with that.

It turned out good enough, also it was cheap and quick.

As for the dash, I've seen some posts around about installing a conformal coating (something like that) on the board to keep them waterproof. Of course this involves disassembly of the dash. When I got mine repaired by Carmo, going way back now, they indicated that the circuit board was water damaged, they were able to repair the damage and then put two coats of waterproofing on it. I never had another problem with the dash after that.

I’ve used a couple different products for renewing black plastic trim. On my Monster S2R I used a product called Pig Spit, which as the name implies is a “cruiser” marketed product. I used it on the belt covers and 9 months later they’re still looking good.

I found that I had to spray on and let it sit, then wipe up any excess (basically follow the directions). Recently I found a Chemical Guys product called VRP Protectant. It’s formulated for plastic (and rubber, and vinyl) trim and is supposedly water proof.

It’s more akin to lotion in consistency but it does work well. I used it on the Norge to clean & restore the large black plastic trim on the riders side of the fairing. (See pic for appearance comparison) Worked a treat on that so I used it on the exterior of the saddle bags and the plastic trim panel behind them.

After a rain ride I can state it is indeed water proof as the rain made no impact on the appearance of the plastics. There is one spot where the run off crossed the plastic and left a difference in the color but I’ve not tried to clean it up as yet….much more rain in the forecast.

Hi John, I tried WD40 and Mothers Heavy Duty Trim Repair, both did nothing

Sprayed mine a couple of times over the years, found Dupli.color trim & bumper paint works a treat readly available at most automotive stores.
