Breva 1100 hiccups during start

Sometimes my Breva coughs/hiccups a bit when starting - video sound (NB imgur defaults to muted...) explains it better than me, this occurs after a single press to the starter.

Doesn't seem to be any clear logic to it, sometimes when it's cold, sometimes when warm. It always actually starts but sometimes the pause is maybe a couple of seconds. As far as I know my battery is in good shape (I use an Optimate) and all other electrics seem fine.

Any idea what's going on? Anything to worry about?

When was your last tune up? Valve adjustment, spark plugs, throttle bodies synced, and TPS reset electronically?

The video doesn't work for me. It loads a blank page.
Should be OK - but it's just a blank video since I only recorded the sound - its muted by default, so enable sound in the bottom right corner? Thanks...

Had it serviced within the last few months, and otherwise running well. Not sure if specifically the TPS was checked/reset - is that a likely cause?

On my Breva the "sacred screw" (idle ajustment screw) position had to be re-established. It is a fine balance between the throttle valve, the stepper motor and the tps. It should start with NO throttle input from you, and settle into a 1200-1250 idle.

Your post comes off unintelligible. No offense if not how it wasn't intended.
A little advice and direction here; Please read the paragraphs at the top of the page several times. The name of this website was established with massive collective experience. This isn't an ignorant social media site full of keyboard mechanics... It is one that most often will have experienced replies. If it's posted, it's not a mere suggestion.

By whom was it serviced? Your local non-Guzzi shop or most garage mechanics CANNOT do it properly. Yes, ECU & TPS electronic connection is critical. Due to the age of the bike, there's a LONG list of things that must be performed and checked by someone with significant experience as a mechanic. You can find most with similar issues that have already posted here. Search. Read.

Many thanks for the reply. Confess I'm not hugely technical - what's the chain of events linking the idle adjustment to the behaviour of the engine start-stop-starting again?

I've adjusted idle rates on previous bikes, where eg the engine would cut out after starting. But in this case no throttle is required to get it started - literally just pressing the starter once causes the described behaviour and it then idles as expected.

Many thanks for the reply and sorry for the lack of further info. I do realise folks here are very knowledgeable and I've solved a few things in the past by searching the very helpful posts here - just was a bit stuck on this one because I'm not quite bike-technical enough to know quite what to search for! (Eg 'starter starts-pauses-starts'? I'm sure someone more savvy can describe it better!)

Anyway my local mechanic is very experienced but not a Guzzi specialist so it's quite possible/likely they don't have all the ECU etc tools specific to the bike. I don't have anyone local but sounds like I should try to get it to somebody.

Meantime, I'm reading up a bit on the TPS - but I'm not having any of the symptoms that seem associated with faults in it - acceleration is smooth, no misfires etc - just that minor pause when starting it. I fully understand if that's not enough to diagnose - was just posting here on the chance this is a common issue/gotcha etc.

Very good and you definitely should. My shop fixes and corrects most of the smaller SoCal shops work, even dealers, far too often.
Look for someone who knows modern Guzzis. You don't have a city on your profile. Add it and maybe we can be of more help.

Where are you located? Someone on the forum may know someonce that can help you in your area to do the service correctly and has the software to set the TPS. If the TPS value is off, it will effect starting.
