my b1100 has factory fitted heated grips, I turned them on today and by pressing the button it went through the three settings ok. Usually to turn them off you just hold the button down and they go off and the dash returns to trip 1. When I hold the button down to turn grips off the dash just goes to trip 1 and the grips are still on . If I turn the ignition off and then turn it back on the grips are still on.
tried many time but won't go off, even disconnected the battery and when connected back up they are still on, any ideas.

Over 10yrs old electrics, it's operated by the dash. I would clean the pins in the connection plugs. Get all connector plugs from switch to dash.

Just looked on wiring diag, it's pins #38 & 39 on black connector on back of dash. These go to grips.
L/H switch has 2 connector plugs, one goes to grey plug on dash (input) , one goes elsewhere.

I had a similar issue with the heated grips on my '15 Norge. Taking apart and cleaning the switch on the handlebar fixed the problem. I chalked it up to dirty contacts in the switch. The switch is deceptively complicated to reassemble correctly. My advice is to take pictures of the switch internals before you tear it apart. The first time I put it back incorrectly and discovered that the horn no longer worked.

If this is still topical, I had a switch problem on my Breva 1100.
It was very difficult to change any setting for the grips.
I took the mini dashboard apart and the switch out. The button with the heated grip sign should sit in a kind of guide channel and it had moved in the socket and would not hit the microswitch underneath cleanly. I reseated it and it has been working fine since.

Cool - thanks. I had a similar problem getting the heated grips on - or off again once on. Yesterday I took my left hand switch gear apart, found loads of muck in there & cleaned it out. It feels like a lot more positive action so I am hoping the problem is fixed.
