After 20-30 miles of brisk 80-90 cruising on my favorite stretch of tarmac, pulling up to a stoplight, my clutch is still slightly engaging, tries to creep forward a bit, and I'm thinking, OK, new clutch at the end of this summer's riding...as this is w ay over my comfort zone...approximately how many hours is my ( wonderful, by the way) dealer liable to bill me for? And, being an 09 with the stiff-as-hell clutch-pull, can I install the upgraded (milder?) spring clutch with the advertised EASIER pull?
 
I would do a fluid flush first to make sure it isn't just a fluid problem. A worn clutch doesn't typically drag. If it is dragging, it is often more catastrophic, not just wear.

I haven't heard about a spring change. That is interesting.
 
Unlikely to be the plate unless it has been abused. It is far more likely to be thrust bearing related if a bleed doesn't fix it.

Pull the swingarm, (It almost certainly needs its swingarm bearings greasing anyway.) pull the slave cylinder and fish out and examine the thrust mechanism. There was an update that suggested installing a second thrust bearing but for the life of me see what this would achieve as the loadings remain identical, its only its rotational speed that will be lowered by an extra race. Also pushrod length can be checked as well. The pushrod might be too short. There are four different lengths.

...Damn...bled the clutch lines, and, sure enough, the fluid had degraded to the color of valve paste at the botom of the reservoir....cleaned it GOOD....and, new fluid, bled it, and, voila!...excellent results....thanks
