Drive Shaft Rev Matching

My V9 Bobber is the first bike I’ve owned with a drive shaft. That said I’m having a difficult time rev matching especially shifting down with the intense engine breaking.. any advice you guys can offer or even a link would be surely appreciated. Again I’m not a newbie been riding for over 20 years...

I use the "blip the throttle" technique.

5 to 4th gear , light blip (at 4000-4200 rpm)
4 to 3rd gear, heavy blip (at 4000-4200 rpm)
3 to 2nd gear, heavier blip

If I blip to heavy from 5>4, i get a light jolt, so im overrevving.

SO I am not crazy...LOL..

I always thought I wasn't blipping enough from 3 to 2...but don't wanna blip so hard so I launch my bike LOL...

Blipping is a term for temporary revving up the bike's rpm to allow smoother gear changing.

It's an advance technique. If you just started riding (I don't know if you are, sorry if I offended you :p), I wouldn't recommend it.

I did practice and learn so with a friend who is an instructor...was quite fun in the parking lot

Go google blipping the throttle and practice with proper instruction with someone clearly knows how off the street...not a good thing to learn in traffic especially with the traffic of our city lol...

Ohh that’s what that’s called. I used to do it more on my sportster 12 years ago :p
 
I didn't know there is a term for it. I came across this "technique" by accident because I hate the "jolt" when downshifting and I was like what can I do to smooth the transition. Should I release the clutch slower? Maybe let go of the throttle and let the rpm go down a bit before squeeze in the clutch lever/downshift? How about giving it a little rev, etc.

It is one of those things when you do or think about when you get bored commuting on the bike like... how fast should I release the clutch/squeeze the throttle to pop a wheelie? Or lets see if I can chirp the tires going from 3rd to 2nd? Or does the rear abs come on if I step on the rear brake hard enough? :giggle:

Also known as "rev matching". Matching engine RPM to ground speed for the given gear. Works with cars, big trucks any vehicle with a manual transmission. or as it is called today an anti theft device because most thugs (or the population under a certain age) cant't drive a manual.
