My Eldo project is nearing completion, but the mufflers are really ugly. Head pipes are as new.
Can anyone recommend replacement mufflers? I'd like quiet ones and do not want a crossover. MAC? Others?

You've had a look at the usual suspects like MG-Cycle and Harpers? If yes, and you don't see anything, I can build you almost anything. Write me direct email; Todd at GuzziTech.com

Thanks Todd. I'm trying to keep this a low budget project. Do you know anything about Epco mufflers?

Why don't you want a crossover? It'll run better with one. The reproduction large outlet "cigar" mufflers are around $450 plus another $30 for the crossover.

MAC mufflers in "Slashback" or "Whispertone" are available for around $275.

Cheaper than that and you're into universal fitment mufflers such as the Emgo 27 1/2" reverse megaphone mufflers which work fairly well, but have a harsh tone. Usually about $130 a pair.

Charlie,

Re crossover pipes: I have run non-crossover mufflers on my daily rider Eldo for 20+ years. My reason for considering non-crossover mufflers on the latest Eldo project is for ease of assembly. Seems the crossover is strictly to reduce back pressure, which is more important at high RPM. Is there a difference in back pressure between "whispertone" (torpedo) and slash cut MAC mufflers? If so, I would assume the slash cut to be less restrictive, but louder - right?

With or without crossover? Which muffler? Is the potential performance difference small stuff for normal riding? I want a relatively quiet, good looking bike with reasonable performance. Your opinion?

My apology for taking too much of your time.:)

In my experience, a crossover in the system gives more mid-range power and better running overall. As I understand it, the crossover isn't to reduce back pressure - it's for better scavenging and so that both mufflers "share" volume to a certain extent.

There will be very little difference in "backpressure" with either MAC muffler since both are a straight-through core design. Neither is quiet in my opinion, the "Whispertone" is only slightly less loud. The "Slashback" has a removable baffle, the "Whispertone" has a fixed baffle.

If you want quiet, then might think about the European "cigar" mufflers with small outlet. However, they are quite restrictive and "strangle" engine performance. Second one down here:

The "large hole" version of the same muffler breathes much more freely and isn't all that much louder. I'll be buying those for all three of my Ambassadors.

Nice looking mufflers.
Chrome plated steel or SS?
Is there a US importer, or must they be ordered from Italy?
