Eldorado Passenger Back Rest Info

Lovely looking and functional item. If I didn't already have the MG rack my order would be in. Yes it may be pricey but its a handmade quality item that most people wouldn't even bother to produce. So well done to Todd for taking the time and effort to make an item that people have been asking for. :clap:For those that expressed an interest, step up and pay the man yer money. :)
Thanks for that.

I've sold just two, one to Harry (happy for the use to build one for you), and one other. I'll build one more only, as that puts me at break even for my $ and time investment. I need to stop doing this... Something about walking behind a swing set comes to mind.

I believe there’s an old expression “put your money where your mouth is”. Apologies if this offends anyone but as Meldrew said, Todd has produced an item that many explicitly asked for. If this was a mass produced “made in China” item as many parts are, yes the cost would probably be cheaper (won’t enter into a debate regarding quality). I have certainly found that aftermarket parts for the California range are few and far between so credit to Todd for expending his time and resources in producing these items.

Can't believe that out of all the people who 'expressed an interest' in this item, there haven't been enough takers for Todd to at least break even for time and effort he has put into this. Rather poor show all round methinks. Can't blame the man if he stops producing one off quality items in the future. Maybe the way forward would be to get a non refundable deposit from interested parties before embarking on production.

In some fairness, the timeline was extraordinarily long... as I didn’t have easy access to an Eldo. A few people did write me back to say they either moved to the Custom/Tour seat/backrest, went Corbin or sold their bikes.
I committed to building Harry one, which looking back now, we should’ve done a one-off and walked away.
Yes, if I were do to anything like this again, certainly paid in full pre-orders only next time. Live and learn.
I will leave these threads as a reminder on why things like this aren’t available when people wonder.

It was a rather long time in development, and I have to say Moto Guzzi should've provided one as an accessory. Those initial pictures on this thread are from show bikes that they were displaying, so, why no actual part available to their customers? They seem to have a lot of accessories available that aren't on my must have list, but no backrest? Seems crazy to me.

I was close to going the Hepco & Becker and Corbin combo, but I really didn't want to change the look of the bike, as it really makes it stand out from the crowd. I'll be posting pictures as soon as I get it and install it.

Fair comment Todd, when I bought my Guzzi I didn’t actually realise how little there was in terms of after market accessories etc. Yes, those of us with some technical “know how” can adapt or make things fit or work for us. However, certain things require specialist knowledge, equipment or expertise and we rely on people like yourself and other contributors to this forum for this service.

Big thanks to Todd for designing and fabricating a beautiful backrest! Will be adding a few photos next week and hopefully others will snatch this up. It's really nice!

I found this one grainy, poor quality picture of an Eldorado with a very nice looking passenger backrest with a luggage rack. It's seems to be a simple and elegant design that flows well with the lines of the Eldorado 1400. The post has expired but it still shows a rather nice looking, likely one off rest/rack. I can't tell for sure but it appears this system replaces the small chrome bar that comes standard on the bike.

If I had a eldorado I would trade it in for a california touring like the one I have , better Wheel, fog light, better luggages etc etc....

Well, it’s good to have options isn’t it? The 16” Eldorado wire wheels are tubeless which is terrific. And from just about every review I’ve ever seen the 16” wheeled CA 14’s out handle the others.

It’s an aesthetics issue really. I thought the California EV was rather ugly, but IMHO, the changes made with the Bassa improved the package with everything that was different. That's how I see the CA Touring versus the Eldorado. I like everything much better that's different about the Eldorado than what the CA Touring has. Some bikes look like an assembly of parts while others have a nice flow to them. Thankfully just about all the 'touring' accessories of the CA Touring can be bolted onto the Eldorado. But all the CA 14’s have that ridiculous vertical line from the back of the tank going straight down. Like the front and back of the bikes were designed by different teams.

But this is a thread about a passenger backrest and a luggage rack for the Eldorado. Again, from an aesthetics standpoint, the one in the grainy picture above is the best one I’ve ever seen. It flows well with the bike and looks ‘designed in’ instead of something that was ‘added on’. I suspect it was a one off garage special because I haven't been able to find it from any of the usual companies who make things for Moto Guzzis.

I'm a bit behind with posting these pictures, but it's a dreary, rainy day in Pittsburgh, perfect for spending time online. Still haven't gotten my wife to give it a comfort test, might not happen till the spring. Backrest #1.webp Backrest #2.webp Backrest #3.webp

Just a casual bump. I'm still looking for a factory looking bolt on pass back rest like the ones Scott had fabbed up.

Hepco becker, I'm sure Todd can order for you.
I've got a eldorado. I want to keep the stock seat set up and don't want to convert to the California seat. The single California seat looks good too, I just prefer the eldorado seats

Yes, I was the same. I was fortunate enough to get an original MG rack and use a top case for swmbo.

This thread goes back years! I'm the proud owner of a 2014 California 1400 Touring She has a back rest for my pillion rider, but I need to add a luggage rack (large) behind the back rest. Is there a backrest luggage rack combo that you know of? I thought Hepko and Becker had one, but I can't find it now. I'd be willing to pay for a custom, such as GTM built for a customer a few years ago? Need a photo?

I have a Hepko Becker backrest with the luggage rack on my 2015 1400 custom and would be willing to trade you straight up for yours if it's the OEM guzzi backrest without the luggage rack. Message me if you're interested
