Ok, this may sound noobish but I'm planning on doing work on my bike myself in the future and I don't know the difference between 'transmission oil' and 'final transmission fluid', which is stated in the v7 service chart at identical intervals. Can't seem to find the two separated in the service manual either. Someone inform me of the obvious. Thank you in advance.

It's a translation problem. The "final transmission" is the final drive, or the small gearbox that links the driveshaft to the rear wheel. It has 170cc of 85-140w gear oil.

The transmission is the main gearbox that fits with the clutch and engine, like normal automobiles gearbox. It takes 1000cc of 85-90w gear oil.

It's complicated because both are referred to as the "transmission" in the manuals. I made a tutorial re changing the transmission oil: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sign216/sets/72157626993357143/

Consider getting the book Guzziology by Dave Richardson at Moto International in the USA. The book is expensive, but worth it for all the incredible detail it gives on small issues like this.

Thank you very much for the tutorial and info. Wonder why the service manual doesn't detail that transmission oil replacement. Thanks again.
