I'm a newbie to Guzzi's, just recieved a copy of the maintenance manual for my V65, and I'm wondering about any special requirements, for fork oil, engine oil or transmission , final drive oil .

I've ridden BMW's for the last 28 years, and pretty much use their branded lubricants in all three bikes .

Bob,

The manual basically says it all.

ATF dexron III for the forks.

20W50 for the engine. Slight variations are probably insignificant.

80W90 for the gearbox but it needs 1 litre. If the manual states 900ml then ignore it and put in a litre.

80W140 in the rear drive. It also needs 10ml of moly. This does reduce the running temperature. Some state that if you use fully synthetic you don't need it. I don't know as I just use dino oil and the moly. Less heat means less friction.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure if the information in the 23 year old manual was obsolete or not .

Any recommendations on the moly additive to the rear drive, looking at the common auto parts outlets the only one I can find, is NAPA and it is an engine oil additive that contains moly .

You won't be wrong following the latest rec's by Moto Guzzi. Oils HAVE developed a bit during the last three decades ;)

Latest recommendations are
Motor Agip Racing 4 T 10W-60
Gearbox Agip GEAR 80W-90
Bevelbox Agip GEAR MP/S 85W-90

or eqvivalent in other quality brands, of course.

The bevelbox rec is a (synthetic) hypoid oil, which eliminates the use of moly, which is a mess.
