Gasket sealer or not on oil pan gasket?

Can anyone tell me whether to use gasket sealer on a new oil pan gasket? In the past I always used a soft sealer when replacing pan gaskets but that was on a BMW R80. I want to know for sure about Guzzi's. I'd ask my dealer but he's away at school.

The only thing I use on (paper or cork)gaskets is CopperCoat, High Tack or Hylomar..... No silicone or RTV sealers.
Hylomar is the best of these... If Rolls Royce uses it it must be pretty good.

Thanks for the replies. How easy is it to remove these products such a Hylomar? I don't know if the factory uses anything or not, but the old gasket seemed to come of in 1 to 2 inch pieces. I had to do some mild scraping, but I was afraid to gouge the surfaces.

If you use Hylomar one time...... You will find how easy it is to remove the gasket or remove the part from it's mounting surface. You can probably reuse the gasket with Hylomar applied to it.

I've used Hylomar in the past but unless I have a known issue as Wayne stated I simply wet the gasket with engine oil and then use it.

My experience is if you oil it you can usually re use at least once sometimes more. If using Hylomar it can be a bit hit and miss with gasket sticking and the breaking when you remove YMMV

Just my experience

John
