Hi all

Well still out and about pon the bike even in the salt, snow and howling rain, however today trying to change down the gear lever stayed down and did not return to correct position so that I sould change down again.

any ideas? I'm not to technical but I did change the gear box oil about 5K ago, would old oil do this or is their a return spring thingy do da that I could look at?

Any help would be great.

cheers

Jock

Jock, this is the first one to surface, but history does seem to repeat itself. Surely the lead engineer is a comedian.

I'd start with the simple things first, linkage bolts coming loose, or check for binding at the shift arm mount, etc. If that is all good, it sure is sounding like a shift return spring. I haven't personally been into the new transmission yet, but it's a "out of the bike" ordeal... makes me miss the wonderful access that the V11 Sport 6-speed offered, why they abandoned it is beyond me... though they will religiously break the springs often, access made it a 30 minute job. Not so with your trans/gear-box I'm afraid.

Part you'll be looking at is #14 below... Part no. 05238331

This happened to me and it turned out to be crud in the external linkages. Remove the left foot rest hanger, clean and lube all pivot points, reassemble carefully. The worst thing that can happen is you might get the gear lever on the wrong spline on reassembly. Simply pull off again and rotate the other way.

No more than 30 minutes all up - I promise...

Thanks Guys

I strpped the linkage down and greased it all up and that seems to have done the trick, time will tell.

Cheers

Jock

this happened to me....
turned out my side stand had gotten just a tiny bit loose and the gear lever rubbed against it on downshift.

it was a head-scratcher.... as when I was looking to see why the lever didn't function I had the side stand down.
