Gear shift indicator

Is is really a "poor system"?
It does tell you what gear you are in, if you "just need know"... and it does this without any switches contacts or wires. and that sounds like a cleaver solution to me. It provides those that want to know with an answer, and it keeps the machine SIMPLER for those that understand that less is more.
The complaint that there is no display with the clutch pulled in seems illogical to me, If the clutch is pulled in there is no need to know what gear you are in... it's all disconnected anyhow.

So if you are slowing down for a stop and you pull the clutch in, its safe to say your next shift should be down !
likewise if you are accelerating up to highway speed and you pull the clutch in, perhaps an upshift is in order !

Just my $.02
It would seem that a small update to the software could make it a lot better.

What did people do in the Old Days before gear counters and Neutral lights !!!

All this “Useless Technology“ is turning our brains to mush… what gear am I in, what’s my Name, where do I Turn… :wasntme:

And introducing more Crap to go wrong, that will either be Unrepairable -
They might have to replace the transmission , because it would cost to much disassemble it, to replace the sensor they never thought would Fail ! But wouldn’t be economically feasible
Or replace the Computer for $$$$. !!!

Please KIFS - Keep it @#$&% Simple :tmi:

None of my bikes have that stuff. I can still look at a map, and count to know which gear I'm in.

Neutral lights have been around for over 60 years and seem to be reliable. If the gear position indicator on my V85 or RS ever fails, I will just learn to ignore it! Unfortunately, computers are necessary evils to run the fuel injection systems and I am not going back to carburetors (to difficult to adjust for various fuel blends used in Phoenix throughout the year).

Nothing wrong with OBD I

I’m all for fuel injection and Engine management - period - Full Stop
But having the car refuse to let you update the firmware / code because you changed the radio is @#$&%¥£§€
