Good day to all.

As times pass by, and considering our Griso has an atemporal look, I thought it would be nice to give her a small technological update, as the headlight on our bike is not the brightest, nor the nicest in tone due to it. Therefore I got searching and can't really find a nice substitute for the headlight with LED tech.
So I decided to see what Moto Guzzi was offering nowadays, and to my surprise I saw that the new V7 Stone comes with quite a nice LED headlight.
Therefore, this thread will be to see if we can manage to adapt this new DRL headlight as they call it to our Griso.

I have done a mock-up with photoshop to see what it looks like, and I am digging it. The tricky part I presume will be the wiring, as from what I have read it uses a 6 point connector. These lights aren't cheap, best I could find is around the 500€ for a second hand one, so I would like to see if anyone could help me out with the wiring process before purchasing. I think GTM is offering a similar solution with another LED system, however I would like the bike to be as close to stock looking as possible, hence going for an original Moto Guzzi product.

Well, let me know what you all think and if this would be something interesting for you Griso riders. I will probably buy the light in the coming months if so!

PD: There are a few other mods in the photo, if curious:
Mirrors: Motogadget (installed)
Indicators: Rizoma

The wiring on your Griso is incompatible with the new Moto Guzzi design.

You will not be able to control the various lighting configurations designed into the new light.

Thanks for your comment. I understand that the connection is different, and that the functionality differs from the Griso headlight, for it doesn't have a Daytime Running Light per se, just the Low Beam always on light.

I'm willing to sacrifice the DRL light for DRL+Low Beam on all the time, and then switch to High Beam when needed as customary with the Griso.

With any luck I'll be able to source a wiring harness and splice it to adapt the 6 pin from the DRL light to the 3 pin of the Griso if that is what it uses (I presume that is the case).

All I was concerned about was voltage, however it should be the same right?

This is the back of the V7 Stone light. Trying to identify the 6 pin connector. Any ideas on the model?

Thanks for the link mate. My intention would be to do it in a way I could revert back to stock if ever needed, so ideally no cutting... The idea would be to make a custom light harness to serve as an adapter. I will probably find out through trial and error if this is possible or not...
Unfortunately, not cutting wasn't an option as I couldn't find connectors. Besides, the stock light is so bad I wouldn't want it back on the bike.

That assumption would seem logical on the surface, but it honestly isn’t.

For example, which pin requires which voltage and what is the maximum voltage tolerated on any given pin.

It would seem prudent not to assume that there are 6 pins each with 12V.

Is one of the pins a ground or is the whole assembly grounded by virtue of being bolted to the chassis?

You will need to gather what information you can from the wiring diagram from the bike this light is normally used on.

You are entirely in uncharted waters here I am afraid.

If you need a plan B, here is my solution (J.W. Speaker 8700 EVO 2 PRO):

That is a very good response, thanks. I will see if I can get hold of the V7 Stone wiring diagram with the specific 6 pin connector to analyse how it is wired. The V9 Bobber also has the same headlight, so there are a few models that use it. We are talking about Italian electronics here, how complicated can it be... Haha

Thank you all for your help and insight.

Good day to all.

I have managed to secure an original DRL headlight, which will be arriving next week with any luck. Also been searching like crazy for the V7 Stone/V9 Bobber Electrical Diagram with the LED headlight to no avail. If anyone has that version and would like to share it with me it would be most appreciated. I have found two versions of the Griso Electrical Diagram, so that part is sorted. If anyone needs them feel free to ask.

Well, thank you all for your help, and hope you have a great weekend, ride safe!

Good morning!

Light has arrived, and I have identified the connector. All that is missing now is the diagram for the V7 Stone/Corsa. I will see if contacting Moto Guzzi directly and asking for it brings any luck! If anyone is interested here is the model of connector:
