G'day Everyone,

My 08 1200 is having problems starting. This is starting to become progresivley worse. sometimes when I press the starter button I get nothing, sometimes takes three to for goes and then she will fire. Anyone out their have similar poblems or know what the solution is. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated. Help.

It's worth spraying contact cleaner (Servisol or similar) into every switch and electrical connector you ever find on your Guzzi.

However, areyou certain the neutral light is on each time, as this will inhibit the starter if not illuminated.

Thanks for the advice. Yes Nuetral Light is on. I have cleaned the switch with contact cleaner but will do this again. Also clenaed the side stand switch and clutch. Is their a relay anywhere.

Do you have a dealer fitted alarm on your bike? If so, this maybe the problem. Have read of people complaining about sarting problems on bikes fitted with an alarm.

Having the same trouble with my Griso. Sometimes the button doesn't work. No sound from the relay. I can activate the solenoid manually and the bike starts fine. Have a relay on order but will try cleaning the contacts. Sounds like a good possibility.

BTW, I like the look with no cover over the starter/solenoid.

I have an 07 Norge with factory security system. It has also failed to turn over on 3 recent occasions...always following an hour or so freeway speed run in hot weather. On all three occasions I stopped for about 10 minutes for gas or a break and then it wouldn't restart. I've just changed the starter relay, but don't yet know if that will solve it, since it has been very intermittent. I'll now check on starter button wires too.

First post, hope I'm doing it right.

I've had this twice now, both times fixed by cleaning the battery terminals, especially the LHS one. I'm 1000 miles away from the bike right now otherwise I'd let you know if its +ve or -ve.

Hope it works

David

My 06 Breva V1100 has starter problems too. You are not alone. I can start the bike with the button. The next time I try to fire it up the 15 amp fuse is blown. Every time I want to start the bike I have to replace the fuse.

I fully unassembled my starter switch and cleaned it up. That did the trick.

G'day Everyone,

My Starter is going well now. Cleaned with contact cleaner again and now operates fine.
