Hey,

We’re planning for a trip to Ireland and must pop over to the Isle of Man while “near by” !
Definitely NOT during any part of the TT !
Anyone been there off season, I found a couple of bike rental places… if your there you Must drive the course, even at a grandpa’s pace ;)

Any advice , suggestions from locals :) or anyone who’s been , much appreciated.
Only planing a couple days on the isle.

Thank,
Don

Do It!!
I went off season and its great.
The circuit would be a joy to ride even without the history. I currently hold the lap record for a 17 plate Roamer at 1 hour 16 minutes 😁
I stayed in Douglas and there are some good eateries there and there's another down by the Calf of Man that's worth a visit.
If its raining go for a ride on the Electric Railway
It's a lovely place to ride, no head cases in cages trying to push you down the road
I fully intend to go back again

😆😆😆

Love this!

I too have this on my bucket list but I want to go to the TT for sure!

My friend Lannis here, has been to the IOM and maybe he will see this post and offer some insight. 🤞

I went in 1975 and 1976 and again in 2009, and would recommend it not just for the racing, but to go over for a longer period to cover practice and really get a feel for the place.
The first two visits had mostly the smell and sound of two strokes, except in the production races, where the "Slippery Sam" Triumph won in the 750 cc production races.
The first two times had a very cool and intimate feel as I could watch the Kawasaki 750 2 strokes being worked on, in the driveway of a house and where there were multiple free places to watch, but it was much more professional in 2009. I have some photos from the 2009 visit if any of you would like to see them.
75 and 76, was spent at a bed and breakfast, where regardless of the weather, you were kicked out after b'fast and couldn't come back until 1700, however in 2009 we stayed at the Sulby Glen hotel, where the bar closed at 0100, and the beer was pumped through a modified Honda engine block, and you could take 2 steps out of the door and watch the bikes on the fastest part of the course. We volunteered to marshal for 2 days and would highly recommend the experience. It is both a magical and dangerous place, yet for motorcyclists it is a "Field of Dreams" where you don't have to ask, "is this heaven?"

The Hotel where we stayed. This was the result of us booking a homestay and finding that the owner had put 5 Czech guys in our reserved room and gave us his sons room in a single bed, so after heading into Douglas with a cheery "you'll never find another place now", we ended up at the Tourist Centre where we found the Hotel because someone was staying there and didn't realise it was on the course and that the room was directly over the bar which was rocking until 0100 every night/morning. Problem solved as we went to bed when the bar closed and in the morning wakened to streams of bikes getting in their "laps" from about 0400 every day

The "Morecambe Missile" about to win the Production race after a hug, Steve Plater and daughter going to win the Senior after a hug, Rossi and Ago dishing out prizes and a weird looking Rossi picture at the Grandstand
