LED bulbs for Breva 750

Now that I have successfully bonded with the Breva (600 miles in 20 hours helps ;) )

I changed out the rear bulbs for LED versions. 2 reasons: the other Breva owner I met on the Rally, and his first question was "how long do your tail lamp bulbs last?" and my mate following reported that the rear mudguard vibrates like a hummingbirds wings.

I fitted a 13 chip LED stop & tail bulb, because I wanted the reflector to do its work, and a 5 LED sidelamp bulb for the numberplate light.

I removed the numberplate light by undoing the bolt, as I couldn't see how to "just pull" the bulb out the back, and whilst it was off, I aluminium painted the inside of the housing, so the 3 LEDs that don't face down can reflect.

I haven't bothered with the indicators, as LEDs take less current than bulbs, and they don't flash properly, unless you fit load resistors, or swap the flasher unit. The standard bulbs have a BAU15S offset pin base, Ring do 10W amber versions part number RMU589.

They seem to work...

The tail light is nice and bright, can't show the brake light, my arms are not long enough :)

"Modern" 'bikes and cars are fitted with rear lights that use a large number of LEDs in panels. The Nippy Norman panel converts the rear lamp to this style, and does away with the reflector, but it only fits the Breva (and costs a lot)

I used an LED "bulb" that has the BAY15D base and is a much longer lasting replacement for the standard bulb, much cheaper, and can be swapped over to the next 'bike. I chose the style that I did so as to make use of the reflector and the lamp lens.

The number plate lamp is the flat 2 pin style, the lower picture on the left. It was the only lamp I could get that works sideways, the cheaper ones send the light straight out away from the connector, which isn't what we need for the number plate. 2 of the LEDs point up, so I sprayed the inside of the lamp housing with silver paint to act as a reflector.

Comes down to how much you want to spend really, I could have bought a shed load of standard bulbs for what the LEDs cost, but I'm hoping never to have to change them, or have them fail on a run, giving the Police an excuse to pull me over.
