Mandello warranty brake rotor replacement

One new thing picked up was that there is an unreasonable amount of free play in one of the front brake discs (left side). The shop have put in a warranty claim and I said to swap them out when I go in for the next service. That's due in a couple of thousand miles so won't be long!

Same here. Getting two new discs + pads under warranty.
 
So, new discs fitted under warranty but not new pads. They will need doing soon-ish, and I understand the MG own brand are ruiningly expensive, so any recommendations for brand/type?
 
Guys, can you elaborate what was the problem with the discs? They just become loose? any noise? It was after a fall, knock on the discs? If it happens during a trip, does the breaks still work? Or they loose force or what? Thanks.

They loosen up over a period of time (no knocks or falls) and have an unacceptable amount of sideways freeplay. They still work ok (I did over 1000 miles after the problem was identified) and there is no noticeable change in operation.

Thirty five years it’s a known fact that fixed caliper rotors MUST “float,” meaning visual side to side movement. The first time any longtime motorcyclist is around full float racing rotors, their eyes go wide. Side to side play is as designed. Rotational direction movement should be near zero. Typically the disk will wear thin before needing replacement. That said, over the years some shops have wheel vise clamps that allow impacts to the rotors if not careful. That’s caused many headaches.
Since you’re in Europe, I’m sure you won’t purchase from us, but below are pads we use and recommend. We do not recommend EBC, though we currently sell them as not much was originally available via aftermarket in 2023. There is now.

40+ years of riding and fixing bikes and this was not how a floating disc was supposed to behave.

In my vast professional experience, it's exactly what it should do side to side. I can't tell on rotational movement.

The OEM Brembo disk assemblies are not full-floaters like on racebikes. They are semi-floaters with star-shaped wave washers on the inside face that remove any axial play with the disk carrier. One 9's disks should not have any axial play. Page 296 Brake System in the service manual calls for checking axial runout as I did.

Bosch? That's nothing compared to full float race rotors as you likely know. Semi-float on most UJM models is near zero movement. If yours has that much float, the runout measurement is pointless. I revised my comment above.
 
My right front brake rotor is loose on the rivets as evidenced by the attached video. I contacted the dealer about warranty two weeks ago and yesterday (Jan 30th) they got back to me with a "no" from Piaggio. Obviously I asked why they would not cover the faulty rotor. I was told Piaggio said too many miles on the bike ( purchased Sep. 2023, 100s 17238 miles). Silly me I guess you're supposed to buy it but not ride it. Looks like I'm going to get stuck with price of a new rotor. Not at all happy. Might just go back to Triumph. Had two warranty issues with my 2013 Trophy 4 months after the warranty expired. Triumph did a "good will" for a new drive shaft as well as a too short wire harness. Both of which occurred on the same trip while I was in Arizona. Cost to me was 0000.00.
 
I don’t know about the v100 but I think floating rotors are supposed to move on the buttons.

Wear items are usually not covered, however warranty items are 100% dealer controlled. Good ones will replace them to keep you as a customer. If not, we have an affordable Brembo replacement;

Thanks for moving post to proper place. I searched for "brakes rotors" came up 0.

Also I just read about you others from this forum having been in the wild fire areas. I am deeply saddened for all who lost their property. It's hard too imagine the pain of loss of life from this disaster.
