As batteries age, and the temperature drops it will take longer to reach a full charge. The charging systems on my bikes are all in good order, but as time goes by, it can sometimes take overnight for the light to go a steady green. Worry when you don't see green, or the flashing green never stops. When the flashing green doesn't go to steady green, that battery has reached an age where the charge it can take, is not as high as the battery charges thinks it should take. This is when you can take a serviceable battery, and fry it from an overcharge. I can understand your being a little apprehensive from the last event with your bike, but stop looking for problems that you don't have. BTW, one you get a solid green light on the tender, disconnect it. Leaving it connected may cause more harm than good.

What is the dash display telling you the system is charging at when the motor is running? 13.8-14.5V? If so the charging system is working fine. If the battery isn't taking a charge that's a different matter. It may not of been put into service properly, since they shop seems to have had trouble installing a map perhaps they didn't read the instructions in the box the battery comes in either.

Apart from that you don't seem to mind asking for help from the mechanics on this board so how about ditching the 'Tar 'em all with the same brush' attitude? The software to allow you to do your own servicing is readily available and cheap. If you don't want to spend the money or are afraid of invalidating your warranty find a shop you can trust to do the work for you.

Even with electric gloves and liner. The voltmeter on the dash display was fine; almost a steady 14V and never dropping below 13.8V.

The battery has EVENTUALLY taken a full charge.
It took nearly 10 hours; from 3:00pm to 1:00am.

With a Battery Tender, in any temperature, on any of my vehicles, including this one before this recent dealer service.
I've never had a vehicle that was just ridden take any more than a few minutes for the Battery Tender to get it up to full charge.

Hence the reasoning that something is wrong and the angry attitude. Sorry.
