Update: still no joy. Dealership said it’s the gauge cluster itself after checking the wiring harness. I wired an inline switch in so I can stop pulling a fuse and putting it back in, and it worked for a bit, but now the gauge cluster is almost constantly showing LD 02.

I can’t afford a used gauge cluster for this bike (on eBay, they’re *starting* at around 350 USD)— does anyone know whether (less expensive) gauges from a different bike using the same 40 pin connector would work, or used one as a stopgap to get the lights & turn signals working?

Can’t afford to buy a new bike, and I’ll get taken to the cleaners if I sell.
 
You have no options other than to have the dash repaired or to buy a new one. The dash is an integrated part of the motorcycle electronics and the motorcycle needs it to operate the lights correctly as you have found out. It is also an integral part of the security system which prevents the bike from being stolen. Your keys transponders are programmed into that dash and this is why it is so important to have the user code and at least 2 different transponder code keys programmed into the dashboard.

I want to WARN YOU!

Do not buy a used dash on eBay!

You will get screwed royally because the seller NEVER knows the User Code programmed into the dash and without this code, the dash is USELESS.

After paying ungodly for the dash, you would have to pack it up and send it to Carmo in Holland, and pay yet again for them to crack it open and hook up their equipment to read the value on the chip, bit by byte.

In truth, if I were you, I would email Carmo directly and find out costs to repair your original dash.

This will be the safest, most reliable, and cheapest option available.

I’m looking up Carmo BV soon…maybe I can call in a favor with a former employer where I did vehicle electronics!

Shot them a RFQ, so we’ll see. Maybe they can give me a quick hack to get everything to work while the dash would be out by throwing varying resistors into the pins, and I can keep legal speed via GPS.
 
All told, I’ll stick with Guzzi, but I think my next ride will be
1) nekkid, and
2) cheaper.

Economy being what it is, I could pull overtime until I drop and still be unable to afford a bike…unless I sell my car… 🧐
