I suggest the best way to replace the oil pressure switch is by coming in from the side. Remove the left hand pipe, and then the crankshaft position sensor, being careful to keep any shims that are present.

Then with a flat ring spanner, you will be able to undo the existing sender, and replace it with a new one. Much easier than removing the airbox, which is another drama in itself.

Norge owners may want to weigh up the extra time for removing the necessary tuppaware compared with the hassles of the airbox, but I know which way I would go even then.
 
I completely agree, kiwi dave, that the left-side-entry would be a preferable route, and, as I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I tried that first based on what someone on another forum said they had done. I even bought the 21mm offset wrench they said would do the job.

Sadly, I was incapable of doing it that way, thus the "open her up" route via removing the tank and air box. [BTW, motobob, impressive. I thought about moving the alternator, but was too skeered to try that as I was already in over my head! :whew: ]

Granted, I did not, as you suggest, k d, remove the CPS, but that did not seem to be the issue. In my case, even though I could get the 21mm wrench head to fit over the OPS, I could not get enough space to move it an iota, much less turn it even a smidgen -- apologies for the technical terms ;) -- to remove it.

With the CPS out of the way, and if I had flat ratchet-head, mebbe. But the 21mm ratchet ones I have seen are pretty chubby. The offset one I tried in that approach was slimmer and thus fit, but, as stated, had insufficient room to move it. I bow to your skills, k d, and invite you over (room & board -- but not air fare! :rofl: -- provided!) next time I get the Norge necked.

I am past all of that now, and have the EV on the lift now, doing the standard maintenance chores plus new rear rotor and pads in prep for a ride to Atlanta soon. What a sweet beast she is. 99K+, and I'll likely pop 100K on the trip.

I don't use a ratchet-head wrench, Bill. As you say, they are too chubby. Just a flat 12 point ring spanner, and yes there is not much room, so there's only a small amount of movement before you have to reposition it. The crankshaft positioning sensor has to be removed to allow the spanner some access. First time I attempted it, it was a trip to Auto-Zone in Burbank to purchase the correct one.
 
Glad to report side entry method will be my method of choice next time.
Open ended 21wrench gets you about 12th of turn at a time, I removed the crankcase breather pipe and its connector which gave me extra wrenching room.
Still tight but better than top access (airbox)way in my opinion.
 
I just did some searching and I take it nobody has found a replacement switch other than from Moto Guzzi? Seems like a common part that should not fail.
