I have noticed in searching on the Internet that there appears to be different keys (on Amazon) for the various late model Guzzis. I would like to purchase a set of blank keys to have as a backup to the the two that are coming with the 2020 California 1400 Touring that I am in process of procuring. Any advice would be greatly appreciated by this new member to the Guzzi family. Thanks

This post and thread describe the keys in detail. You need to understand a cloned key versus a unique key. There is a SIGNIFICANT difference that can make or break you in the wrong situation.

Thank you MotoGuzziFan. I have studied that process and do understand it. My question has more to do what part number should I order/buy for a spare set for my 2020 California 1400 Touring. I have found a few listings on the Internet and on Amazon but it looks to me there may be different compatibility factors. So the bottom line is if a key set is said to be for a California does that apply to all the model years?

Looking at parts diagrams, the key is not listed separately. A locksmith shop may be able to correctly identify the key type. If not, you may need to contact the importer. If you do find out, pleas let everyone know the outcome.

I bought an extra key from a local locksmith. He was able to clone my one existing key. I don't have the user code so I am treading on thin ice.

OEM Moto Guzzi Key Blank - 2D000004

Perfect! Thank you!!
Have ordered a set via Amazon using that part number. Also the dealer handling my upcoming purchase of a 2020 California 1400 Touring has verified two sets of working keys and reset the personal code for me so I should be in good shape. :)

Finally took delivery of my 2020 Cali 1400 Touring and had my first ride. Today I decided to tackled the job of adding two newly purchased keys with transponders to the bike. I had purchased 2 each OEM Moto Guzzi Key Blank - 2D000004 as kindly recommended by MotoGuzziFan above. After a few false starts I managed to program my two new keys successfully! And on an unrelated note I also managed to reprogram the security system for not auto setting after shutdown and now works on/off from the control fob only. Yea! Feeling good :)
