Hi all,

I'm going to look at a 2014 California Custom in a couple days. Apparently it's had the fueling modified at GTM so that is sorted, but otherwise stock.

Searching through the forum, I see the main known issues are H-pipe being prone to crack and problems with tank venting that is an easy fix. Looks like this year should not have flat tappets. Anything other known issues particular to this bike I should look for?

Is this Buzz’s bike? I can’t imagine he doesn’t have two keys and the code.
Keep an eye on the exhaust for cracks. It’s just a matter of time despite those always saying theirs is good. Unless you remove the exhaust and inspect it, you’ll never know until it massively comes apart, riding around with a partially cracked exhaust is not good.
I’ll probably discontinue my cut and fit H-pipe. It’s been 10 years. I’ll only offer my full system at that point on.

Yes, I believe his name is Buzz! I'm going to see it tomorrow. You know the bike...any other thoughts?

You wrote that you can only inspect the exhaust by removal. And since this was directed at the bike I am purchasing, can you tell if the exhaust is cracked by tapping on the tube with a wrench. The sound is different. However, since I don't know the sound of a good one, I wouldn't know the sound of a bad one, but you might. We used to do this to identify a cracked brake drum on the fire engines during the routine maintenance.
