Transform the ride quality on your Custom

What tool are you using to turn the preload nut? I don't recall Guzzi including a spanner wrench with my bike and I don't have one lying around. I assume the first thing to do for preload is to turn it all the way to soft and then start counting full turns until you meet 13 or whatever your final setting might be?

Same with the rebound screw? Turn it all the way counter clockwise and then start counting clicks as you turn it clockwise?

Hi can you explain when you say preload 14 turns from the top? Do you mean loosen nut to start at top of the threads and then screw the nut 14 full turns?
Affirmative - starting with the nut at the top of the threads, screw down 14 (if using my setting - your situation may be different) full turns.

What did you use to turn the nut? I'd rather not ding up the finish with a screwdriver.

Spanner wrench was included in my Guzzi tool kit - you'll need to get one if not in yours. And regarding the rebound, you want clicks from closed - screw clockwise all the way in before counting clicks counterclockwise.

I rode over to Cycle Gear and bought a spanner yesterday and went to work. My pre load was really soft! I didn't count the turns when I totally unloaded but it was no where near the 13 I put back on. Rebound was close. I'm now at 13 turns on preload and 8 on rebound. I'm 5-11 200 lbs and usually ride solo on this bike since my wife prefers the comfort of my BMW K1600.

Ride quality is much better. I was likely bottoming when riding aggressively previously. Also steering seems a tad quicker so I'm not in the lowrider position anymore.

You're very welcome - glad you were able to improve the ride, and I hope others have as well.
Hi there. How do you think your settings would go on a Cali Tourer compared to the Custom?
I’m mainly one up and am about 20kg less than you, but I do keep a bit of kit in my panniers..

I used the manual as a guide, so I recommend that you do the same. I would assume the settings are different for the Touring since it is a heavier bike.
