• Ciao Guest, The owner of this website and GTMotoCycles.com lost his home completely on the morning of January 8th in the L.A. Wildfire Storm. Most of his neighborhood is gone, and a few friends were killed along with their pets. The GTM SHOP and STORE are functioning normally, but we DEMAND EXTREME PATIENCE on orders as we are a SMALL business and Todd usually has his hands on nearly every order before it goes out. You can find more info on a post named L.A. Wildfires in the USA section. Our heart and best go out to everyone in this horrific disaster.

Rush hour on the highway, miles from home - suddenly - "Urgent Service Required" message on the display and then "poof" - engine shuts down. I let it sit for a bit on the side of the road and then tried to restart - nothing. Paid the tow service to come and tow me home. Took the bike down to the dealer (luckily I have a van for transport or the bill would have been higher - the dealer is about 90 miles away) Dealer runs PADS, gets a "1305" code - they don't know what that is (neither does PADS) So, they start a ticket with Tech Support. Several days pass and then the answer - "It's the fuse for the brake light. The ECU lost the ability to talk with the brake light" So, the ECU shut down the bike completely. This was not a warranty issue, so I paid the diagnostic fee and the mechanic time. With the tow - Grand Total $700plus hard cash plus time, etc.
- All good, I guess - since I absolutely love this bike, but...........
- Recommendations:
1. Carry fuses under your seat
2. Look at the fuses first if you get the dreaded "Urgent Service Required" message
3. Replace stock fuses with Eaton Bussman Easy ID fuses (when a fuse fails - it is ID'd with an LED for an easy find/replace)
Oh - and the new Michelin Road6 tires eliminated the "wobble" on grooved roads that the Pirelli Angels seem to create.....

Cheers!

Sorry for the hit you took, but thanks for that. Great reminder!

That sucks, thanks Piaggio. Post worthy of this site, so I highlighted it to keep it at the top.
What type fuses does it use so that I can be sure to stock some of the EasyID versions.

They're mini blade fuses , tail light is 10amp.

there are spares in fuse holder.

Tried to see if I could replicate issue OP had , so I took fuse out and started the bike (it comes up with "alarm Service" on display). Bike ran ok, admittedly I only ran it for a minute or so with no issues.
Didnt get "urgent service message", so i wonder if there's something more to OP's fault.

Received the message about 20 minutes into my ride in traffic - the bike ran just fine for another 10 minutes while slogging through the traffic, looking for an exit to pull off the highway and then, done! Kinda left me hanging out on the skinny branches......... I think my 2015 V7 Stone would probably just keep going even if one of the cylinders fell off.

The fuse was the 10 amp fuse - replaced all with the Eaton LEDs and everything seems to be good.

So - what about the "1305" error code that the Service Techs had to contact Tech Support to decode? Not in the list of error codes I have. Anyone have any insight there?

- Love this bike, @Raven - ride one you'll get hooked

Cheers!

I could be wrong here, but the rear brake lights do not run on the Can bus so it seems odd to me that you had a total failure. I have a Givi top box and I am going to hook its LED lights into the brake circuit as soon as its out of warranty. I did have an issue with a total failure a few weeks back on my V100s, I wrote about on here. you may want to check the main 30A fuse on top of the starter relay. Its a bugger to get to as well. It has nothing to do with starter circuit but it does feed both fuse blocks. It seemed just a convenient place to mount a fuse. Other bike manufacturers use the same relay and possibly use it in the solenoid circuit, but I'm not sure.

Copy of some of the error codes from Service Manual (pg127). Looks like theres three possible options.
Dont know why your dealer couldnt find this info, but hopefully your issue is now resolved.

I would probably not have been as understanding as the OP. A new bike under warranty should not blow fuses so I would have taken a stronger stand about the diagnostic fee and labor (warranty repair). I fear there may be a bad spot on a wire somewhere (or the relay is failing) that caused the fuse to blow (based upon the error code descriptions).

Fuses typically do not "blow" unless there is a short in the circuit that the fuse is protecting.

It seems really strange to me that a fuse would blow and then the problem is cured by simply installing a new fuse. I suspect there's something else going on here.

Not necessarily. I've seen the fuse material fracture from vibration or just poor manufacture.
