This 82 Guzzi I bought has a Newtronic ignition kit installed on it. If you're not familiar with it, its made in the UK and replaced the points plate assembly. Well its broken. So now I am looking into replacing it with the Dyanetek Dyna S ignition kit. Is anyone familiar with either of these two kits? I would just convert it back to the points plate assembly but I don't have those parts and it seems easier to install the Dyna S kit. I just don't know if the UK Newtronic kit is the same as the Dyna S kit and maybe something was removed that is crucial to the Dyna kit. As you can probably tell, I had no idea that either of these things even existed and obviously I need something to make my Guzzi fire up. Thanks,
Geno Garza

You can also use the Dyna III kit (for the big block Guzzi) in the V50. Just reverse the leads for the left and right cylinder (V50 cam rotates in the opposite direction of the big block distributor shaft). You get better control of your timing for each cylinder. To use the Dyna III, you just have to have your two coils. The rest of the wiring is provided in the Dyna III setup.

Thanks a lot. Do you know what the advantage is of having the Dyna III kit over the Dyna S? Thanks again.

Dyna III to Dyna S? I don't know. I have bikes with each and I have had no issue with either. The S doesn't have the control unit to hide somewhere though.

Newtronic uses optical pick ups, Dyna uses magnetic. I haven't had issues with Newtronic either.

All of them use the original mechanical advance system of weights and springs.

Dyna III considered somewhat, but not hugely more reliable than Dyna S. This from Guzziology, my own experience & what I have heard over the years. I've personally used both, III on my T3 & 1000S, S on my V65SP when I had it. Never had any problem with a III over many miles, just some minor stuff with the S when I had it. S is designed specifically for the small blocks, apparantly per prior posted III can be modified for small block-but I've never heard of that usage prior to just now, so can't speak to it's viability-but John Zibell has certainly demonstrated his knowledge many times here.
