I swapped out the stock tires for a set of Conti Road Attack 3s about 4500 mi. ago. I'm noticing cupping on the front and rear. Running stock pressure. Bike has stock suspension as well. By the way, the stock set had cupping as well, albeit less in the rear but similarly up front. If it makes any difference, the bike is ridden daily 10k miles a year about, and I tend to have fun with it rather than take it easy.

Any ideas what my problem could be? Balance? Wrong pressure for my weight (190 lbs) and tire?

Also is there any danger in continuing to ride on mildly cupped tires, or should I be shopping for a replacement set? Just bummed I didn't get much life out of them.

Cheers.

I’ve never had a set of motorcycle tires that didn’t eventually cup & I’m fastidious about checking air pressure. Softer compound tires seem to cup faster. Motorcycle tread runs at about a 45 degree angle across the tire, so the tread has a leading and trailing edge. The leading edge wears faster than the trailing edge, which causes cupping. Look at the sole on an old pair of shoes - the heel (where it strikes the ground first) wears faster than the rest of the sole. It’s similar with bike tread.
