Hi all,

Couldn't find anything about this via search so here goes. I see there's a service manual for the 2019 V85TT, but not for the '21 version. Have there been any changes? Comparing the basic maintenance items it seems the same, but of course the owner's manual has no info about maintenance. I guess Guzzi want you to take it to the dealer for all maintenance, even oil changes! At least they have the oil specs in there.

First comment is that I see that for the V85 the first recommended gearbox and final drive oil change is at 18k miles. My V7 had gearbox oil changed at the first service. I plan to change all 3 oils at the first service. What do the more experienced gearheads here think? I will do this all myself as the dealer wants in excess of US$600 for the first service including all oils! One of the best things about Guzzi's is the ease of maintenance.

Second question. The '19 service manual (downloaded from this forum) seems to say that you refill the final drive oil through the level check opening on the rear side. I noticed that there's a rubber cover on the top with what looks like a fill plug there - is that what it is? It's not a normal bolt head, whatever it is!

Thanks in advance
patrick

The "plug" on top of the final drive is a breather. I fill my V9 through the level hole with a syringe.
V85 all years takes 160cc of 75w140 in the bevel box, not 180cc as per some of the old versions of the manual. It seems the fill hole is not actually an oil level hole either so don't fill until oil dribbles from the hole.

I run my valves slightly looser than MG spec....0.15mm inlet and 0.20 mm exhaust. Todd here seems to agree with this, in my short time here and with MG it is apparent if he says it is so then it can be taken as fact.

Otherwise I think everything else is the same from E4 to E5 models in terms of routine service.

Hopefully some more knowledgeable chaps and lasses will be along to confirm soon enough
