I am just getting around to using the Technoresearch VDSTS standard. I am using a farily new Toshiba laptop with the USB converter recommended by Technoresearch. The computer connects and recognizes the ECU however it will not go online with it. I have completely un-installed the software and erased all traces from the registry and then re-installed the software and updated it online from Technoresearch and no deal. The software indicates that it finds the port but no connection. I have tried switching the ignition and connecting within the 10 second period under every imaginable condition but no-go. Before I call Technoresearch, does anyone have any suggestions?

What do you mean by this "The computer connects and recognizes the ECU however it will not go online with it. " ? Online with what?

Seems in is either a problem with the USB adapter or the cable supplied by Techno Research. What is the OS on your laptop?

Steve,

I had the exact same problem. Accidentally I found that you need to click on Dashboard mode first then Connect.

(The instructions need a bit more detail I reckon).

Problem is solved. It turns out that the battery cable for the negative side had a cold solder joint and was not making contact under the plastic cover. Once the cable was repaired, the unit connected right away.

I removed the alligator clips on my VDSTS and connected a cigarette lighter plug in their place. With the utility power outlet adjacent, it was a no brainer.

Works for bikes with the socket, but if you use the Pro version, or have a model without the socket you need the clips

I hadn't thought of that, the biggest pain in the butt for the whole thing is hooking up to the battery.

Thanks for the tip!
