What it’s like to ride a motorcycle for cagers

But you are more at risk, when you have an « Incident » on a motor bike that in a Airbaged Cage…

Although me and the Honda Flew over a car and I walked away, the bike got New 2012 forks and front wheel etc…

That's true; in the case of a crash, you ARE more at risk of injury on a motorcycle than in an airbagged car.

But the YouTube dude didn't say that. He said "If you fall, you're gonna die.". No actual motorcyclist could say that with a straight face.

We'll add that to "Don't use the front brake; you'll go over the handlebars" and "A heavy bike holds the road better" and "A car pulled out in front of me so I had to Lay 'er Down, buddy" in the pantheon of motorcycle wisdom ....

I watch crash videos sometimes.

I follow along thinking "All right, when is the danger going to show up? Would I be riding this fast? Would I have seen it in time?"

Almost every time, the answer is "This guy is riding WAY too fast for conditions. No way I'd get into this situation."

Usually. It's a cheap way to learn

I don’t go looking to watch crash footage , other than what happens in WSB or MotoGP.
I take no « entertainment « from anyone’s misfortune, regardless of how they got there.
Someone might have overlaid that voice track on thé vidéo…

( why does it put accents on some of my words @#&&%£¥ Apple… )

Heck I walked away ( broken collarbone ), my bike didn't. My accident unfolded in slow motion for me as I remember thinking just before she pulled out in front of me, that this person can't be that stupi.......................

.

Have to take a friend at Dulles, so you are spared my moto-monologue. :giggle:

Anyway, when I drive our car, or ride one of my battle fleet's Guzzis, I always have airbag protection!

Modern cage airbags (plus seat belts, design, crumple zones) are truly remarkable lifesavers.

Kathi had a [fill-in-the-blank] turn in front of her in our little 2020 Honda Fit. Cops said that combined collision speed was c.75 mph. Looks as if a fender-bender, but it was totaled. Kathi and her friend were stunned in surprise but uninjured. And, that in an econobox.

As for riding, I wear -- as in ALWAYS -- wear a Helite Turtle vest. Videos? See this:

Yes, of course, you cynics ;), marketing.

Better go; plane's on time.

Wow. Did that just happen this morning, or is the picture tagged with the date of posting?

Sure glad she's ok?

I have a friend that wears the same vest always. He does a lot of track days also. He's impossible to keep up with through the twisties.

It is quite possible for most anyone to keep up with me through the twisties. :giggle:

But I do have a good time at my septuagenarian speed.

December 2023. In Erie.

Date stamp is odd; as you said, must be related to posting. I'll (try to ;)) remember that and be clearer.

"You fall you die" is hyperbole, and I think it was a bit of a joke(maybe?). I prefer something like "Motorcycles don't forgive all the mistakes you can make in a car and not notice."
