Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Today I set out on a multi-day trip on my 2021 V85TT. Started in Santa Cruz, Bolivia at 400 msl and headed SW up the Andes mountains. Sleeping in Sucre tonight after 482 km of perfect curvy mountain roads with very little traffic and climbing to 2790 msl.
I have to say…this Guzzi is a wonderful bike for curvy stuff!
I’ll try to add my favorite pic of the day, each day.

Excellent. May Meili be with you.
Did the bike run well at 2790 metres (over 9,000 feet)?
It ran as well as back home at 400 metres.
Only change I’ve noticed is while starting. At altitude it takes longer to fire up, requiring a few more turns of the engine. I’ve also noticed that if I very slightly twist the throttle, it fires up quicker, but never as quickly as at low altitudes.
Today we rode up to 3800 meters.

Taking a break from the cold morning air. It was -2 degC when I left the hotel in La Quiaca, border town in northern Argentina. Happy to report the Guzzi was running flawlessly at 2800 meters. It still has the ‘running-in ECU mode’. One of the reasons I’m headed for Tucuman to get the ECU flashed at the dealer. Dashboard still lights up when I hit 5000 rpm.

Hit 3800 meters at the highest point yesterday. And back down to about 700 meters when going through this cloud forest between Jujuy and Salta cities.
Should note that the bike runs just fine at these altitudes. Worth commenting that I only noticed a change in it while starting it up. It takes longer cranking before it fires up. Found that cracking open a hair at the throttle while cranking makes for easier/faster ignition.

Get out the owners book. It's a simple change through the mode button. There is no "flash" for these from a dealer. Also just drive right through the flashing lights. It will eventually hit the rev limiter.

Thanks for the tip @Vagrant . Haven’t had a chance yet so I’m just riding through the flashing lights till I get a chance to read up on it.

Another crazy curvy gravel/rocky road crossing Aconquija Nat. Park . First time testing the V85 in this type of terrain. I think it did very well notwithstanding my very mediocre offroad skills.

Beautiful PISSIS lake at 4600 meters near Fiambala town .

I just noticed you wear a Schuberth helmet. That's what I have. Very quiet and light.
Wow! 4,600 meters ( 15,000 feet) I just read Pissis is the third highest peak in South America and the second highest volcano in the world.

@Raven quiet was reason # 1 I bought it too. Happy with it so far.
Nice additional facts about Pissis, thankyou.

Sharp change of scenery as we cross the Andes from arid/windswept Argentina’s eastern foothills, thru the Pino Hachado crossing, to the lush/drizzly/colder setting in Curacautin on Chile’s western side.

Ok, first hiccup with the V85…it started losing final drive gear oil and coating the tire on the shaft side. Took a look in a shop in Puerto Varas (MQX motocicletas). Found water got in there and oil was milky and grey colored. Unsure whether it was a seal failure. We did not probe further as getting another seal would take too long. Drained bad oil, flushed remnant contaminated oil and filled up with another 160 ml 75W140 gear oil.
I’ll report back on how this evolves while trying to keep a close watch on it.

Border crossing between Chile and Argentina, Cardenal Samore at 1850 meters. Leaving Chile. First time we toured southern Chile on bikes and it deserves all the rave reviews one reads about. I’ll try to come back next year for a longer spell.
