I may look into doing a serious skid plate for these, if (pre-paid) interest is out there. I see a handful of companies coming out of the proverbial woodwork thinking they’ll make a buck. Jokes on them.

What material would you want? Aluminum or powder-coated steel?

I imagine aluminum is $$, slightly weaker, but lighter than steel. So I have this right?

Bare aluminum I think would be a good option.

Yes, and all metal prices right now are sky-high. Steel being much cheaper, even once powder-coated. Let me put a design together to show if there's more than just you interested... if so, please post below.

Sounds good. Anything has to be better than the piece of aluminum foil it comes stock with.

Interested. Steel would work for me. Interested also in fairly easy removal or access for oil & filter changes (sorry, obvious).

Gamma Zinken makes a good looking skid plate and extension out of 5MM aluminum.
store.gammazinken.net/epages/161079.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/161079/Products/SM602015 make a deal to distribute. Price is similar to other adventure bike alloy skidplates.

Thanks Neil. Small companies like this will typically have no interest because there is no volume ($) to be had, or they want me to absorb most of the R&D cost by ordering large quantities, or most often will make them to sell directly on their website(s) or large online businesses. I'll reach out to them though, appreciated.

Look at the heat shields too, please. Stock ones have failed and are a bit ugly.

I will be watching this thread. The factory skid plate and heat shields don’t look very strong.

Any chance you were able to pull together a prototype? Preferably something bent at the sides to protect that beautiful set of headers you sell.
