Oh No - Not Tires

I recently put new tires on my 1400T. Last tires were Metzlers which were cupping after 5K on the rear. Having had good results in the past on performance HD Roadglides (extensive modifications) with Michelin Commanders I opted to walk away from radials.
I dropped down to a 180 on the rear so I could put a pair of Commander 3’s on. I ride a very mixed bag of roads as I live in the NE Ga mountains and ride to both south Fl and west Wisconsin every year. I prefer the stiffer side walls of a bias ply tire in mountain curves. I have had to remove all the undersides of the floor boards for lean angle improvements. So far I am very pleased with cornering, legal touring speeds & hi speed highways. Maybe a little harsher on rough pavement. Time will tell on tire life,
This is simply my opinion. Just sharing what works for me, not endorsing anything.
No issues with the 180 rear on the stock width rim?

Everybody has their preferences but Dunlop is not on my favorite brand list. I have done some quick searches and found no other tire except the original Dunlops listed for a 2014 California Touring. Is there anything else? I looked under Michelin, Metzler, Pirelli (same company as Metzler), and Avon. Nothing recommended. I am at 3,700 miles on mine and I figure I am half way through. Just thought I would see what was available.
I have been running Bridgestone Exedra Max tires since my Dunlop's came off at 8000 miles. My 1400T now has over 80000 miles running strictly Bridgestone tires. I usually get around 10000 out of a rear, and as high as 20000 out of a front.

Great to hear as I just put the Exedra Max tires on when I bought mine, the Dunlops were meh.....

What a MASSIVE difference new tires made on my MGX! The bike had a set of mismatched tires when I picked it up. I'm 99% sure the rear was the OEM Dunlop. Scary thought isn't it? Went with new Shinko 777's 180/65/R16 rear. The bike tips in so nice a nimble now compared to how it was.

I have Dunlop on mine too. They reminded me of biking in the 70s and 80s. I had forgotten about white lines, drain covers and such like but given a reminder soon after buying a bike with these fitted. My previous bikes had Metzlers which gave me much greater confidence. Let me know what you find?

Bridgestone Exedra Max....Great grip, ride smooth and good mileage so far.

Congrats on getting that MGX! It's on my wish list.

I have Avons. They claim a 15,000 mile wear, but I don't wait that long.

What sizes did you use??
180/65/16. Here, many noted changes in the behavior of the motorcycle. My observations are as follows: Turning with a tilt is much easier and more predictable, the rear suspension has become a little softer, and subjectively the bike began to accelerate easier and faster. Perhaps this is due to the emergence of confidence after saying goodbye to the old Metzeller 888.

I recently bought a set of Bridgestone Exedra Max tires at the beginning of September and just got a notice the Bridgestone is doing a rebate on these tires. If you need tires and buy some Bridgestones before 10/31/2024 you can get a $60 rebate. My outlay after the rebate is $346 which is good for a set of tires IMO these days.

Cheers!
