V100S Reliability

My V100S has just over 7,000 miles since I picked it up in April, and it has been completely reliable. I've got its 3rd set of tires waiting to go on it pretty soon.

My Mandello is not my only bike, so the mileage does get spread around. :)

Mine's a bit earlier US -- 0140, and it's apart and waiting for parts at the dealer's on a warranty claim, thanks to the dastardly clamps / hoses coolant leak. At least, it's still winter-like in SoCal; I have a trip to Oregon scheduled in June, and want to ride it mercilessly to flush out any other gremlins way before that trip...

It seems that there isn't a pattern as to which bikes have the clamp/leak problems. Kind of the luck of the draw.

Don't buy it! I like being the only person I've seen riding one around 😁. But seriously I can't remember which reviewer said it, but the gist was he wasn't sure what he thought when first started riding it, but the more time he had the more he really liked it.

As for reliability, mine has been solid but I don't have a ton of miles yet. Over a 1k but I don't remember how many over. Dealer prep makes a difference to. The dealer I got mine from did all the recalls and hose clamps before I picked it up.

I test rode a 2023 V100S yesterday and really liked the bike.

That being said I am buying the bike to tour on in the USA and I am a little concerned about reliability.

I would be going on rides with friends so the last thing I want is mechanical issues that cause delays for the group.

Would love comments on owners who have put miles on their bikes.

Also, trying to see how common that coolant leak issue is and if it has been addressed by Moto Guzzi.

Thanks!

I love the bike Skent. I love it so much that i just got a new one after my first one was taken out c me on board . My crashedbike did not have any issues in its 15,400 miles. No leaks/faulty clamps, no sensors, nothing.
I think you will love the bike, especially a newer version with resolved teething problems. But again, mine did not have any.

Oh Man! Sorry to hear a fellow V100 and valley resident went down. I'm at 13,300 as of today cruising around the Phoenix area. Glad your okay and getting another V100!

Thank you Jon. It was in Payson coming down from Winslow. A confused, disoriented, LICENSED, elderly snowbird.

My 23 Mandello S is on the side of the road right now after less than 2000 miles. The transmission will not engage. I can shift into gear but when I give it throttle it's like I'm in neutral.

So right now I'm more than pissed.

But I would like to share my experience with the Moto Guzzi brand. I had two EVS that had bad valves nuts (wrong word), a centaro whose oil pump gear just decided to blow up because when you make an aluminum gear with a steel gear, the aluminum gear will lose every time And now I have no transmission on my v100 after less than 2,000 mi. This is across many models old and new. I really like these bikes but my experience has been that. Moto Guzziis not a reliable brand at all. They have little to no dealer support or part support. I really wanted this bike and this brand to be reliable. But they're not. So after four Guzzis over 20 years and a bunch of stupid breakdowns, my conclusion is this brand is not reliable. None of my bikes had more 15000mi on him when they experienced these failures.

I know this is just my experience and it's anecdotal. But going on a Moto Guzzi forum and asking if they're reliable will usually only get a certain type of reply. And I want my experience to be known so the next rider makes a more informed decision.

In fact, because of my personal experience with Guzzis not being reliable, I decided to wait on taking my Mandello on a long ride. In order to see what problems would arise. I'm glad I waited because I'd be broken down 8 hours away from home if I didnt Thanks for making my life hell Moto Guzzi. I look forward to giving you a lot more money and waiting forever for parts as you try to fix this.

I've been riding them since 1975. The only time one left me stranded was when I had an instantaneous battery failure on my old T3. Since then I've ridden all over the country without any failures that stranded me. I did have a lambda sensor fail on my 1100 Breva but I had one drop shipped to me where I was staying in Colorado. It arrived the next day and issue solved.

I own 20 motorcycles including 10 Moto Guzzi motorcycles and BMWs, Ducatis, and even a Russian Ural. They have all been “reliable” and yet they all have had items that required attention now and then. I think this is the nature of mechanical things. Even my Toyota and Subaru cars have been the same.

My V100 has had the usual “brand new model” gremlins but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I’ve been frustrated like you too.

I tell you truthfully, the Moto Guzzi motorcycles I have owned and now own today have been for the most part, very reliable once sorted fully.

I think you have something unusual there and they will get it sorted out pretty quickly.

Keep the faith.

Every motorcycle I have owned in my lifetime, and there have been over 100, had something that needed attention once in a while.

I tour a fair amount myself.. That being said there's a little over 9000 miles on it and other than a service bulletin I've not had any issues.

If another data point helps, I just got back from a 2100 mile week long trip and rolled over 6500 miles during the ride. My V100 ran great and I am enjoying it even more as a great sport touring bike. In the past, I've had a minor coolant leak (clamps), had the service bulletin on the clutch slave seals done, and had to tighten the oil pan bolts. Otherwise it has been (knock on wood), reliable. No different than many other bikes that I have owned in past - Ducatis, KTMs, Kawasakis, etc. that sometimes have a few little issues, even when new. Though don't get me started on my Motus...lol.

I wonder if your problem has anything to do with the serious clunk when engaging 1st gear? When I first experienced it I was shocked at the amount of thrust to the bike as a whole not to mention the pressure on the cogs. So, I no longer start my bike in neutral I engage 1st gear and pull the clutch lever in and hit the starter button.

At any rate I feel for ya buddy.

Yes. Idem to many of the guys above the ownership of my first (killed at 15,400 ml) and second (7,400 ml) Mandello S has been great.
No leaks or anything. I have been very lucky over the years with all the brands I,ve ridden.
