Short sighted? Hmm.

Charging for, and being paid for, all work that is completed, is not short sighted, or greed. It’s being responsible.

Especially, when as an owner, you employ and pay mechanics based upon their work. To devalue their skills and work by not charging the customer accordingly for it, and then paying the mechanic his or her due, is insulting and wrong.

I can tell you have never stepped up to the plate and built a business with your money, sweat, and tears.

Any businessman who does not pay attention to the bottom line at all times, is destined to fold up, sooner than later. Guaranteed.
 
Pretty simple Scott, If you want to be in the shop scene you BUY the software to work on currant models.
If you are a consumer or customer you PAY someone to shut off light cause they bought the software.

Cheap riders have a piece of tape on the dash, they didn't call the 800 # and complain, they come here!

Actually, my parents literally built a small business from the ground up when I was a very small child, and my mother ran that same business the whole time that I was growing up, as my father had a stroke right after they got the business up and running, which left him disabled and unable to work. I ran that business for several years when I was old enough. So yeah, I do know what it takes.
Like I said earlier, I have no problem paying a shop for work that is beyond my abilities, but traveling hundreds of miles to have someone perform routine maintenance is not reasonable for me.
 
Distance from a dealer has no bearing on performing your own routine maintenance provided that you know what you are doing.

I understand.

However, FWIW, a very tiny piece of black electrical tape on the dash and you no longer see the wrench icon.

Problem solved.
 
Ended up buying a used 2014 Honda NC700X with less than 1,000 miles on it for my wife.

Thanks, it should be a good reliable bike for her.
I still have my Moto Guzzi (and really like it), but I am anything but a brand fanatic.

I hope you realize that I was just kidding and ribbing you!

Truly, enjoy the new motorcycle. I always say "Ride what you love so that you will love what you ride!"
